Pennsylvania shooting: America cannot dictate democratic values to Africa – ADAPHAI

A leading civil society organization in Nigeria, the Advocacy for Advancement of Peace & Harmony in Africa Initiative (ADAPHAI), has condemned the recent violence in American politics in which former President Donald Trump and several others were shot during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Sulaimon Suberu, and made available to journalists in Abuja, ADAPHAI described America as an arrogant nation with no guiding ideology, adding that the country does not have the moral strength to dictate democratic values and ethics to Africa.

It was said that the unfortunate events in Pennsylvania, which resulted in deaths and many fatal injuries, showed that the political climate in America was fragile and vulnerable to political violence and manipulation.

According to the group, the West’s neo-colonial agenda, spearheaded by America in all developing countries of the world, especially in Africa, is completely contrary to the principles of free will and freedom and is rather a covert form of exploitation and oppression.

ADAPHAI therefore called on African Heads of State and Government to work towards building their own political ideology that takes into account the continent’s particular socio-political realities in order to ensure rapid development on all fronts.

The statement states, in part: “How can we explain the level of violence and gangsterism that has characterized the presidential election in America, even as the country claims to be making progress in democratic governance and civil administration?”

“It is obvious that the country is actually home to a large percentage of desperate politicians who believe neither in the rule of law nor in sportsmanship, but in the crude mentality of political chicanery and manipulation.

“It is now crystal clear that a country like America and similar countries in the West have no moral right to dictate democratic governance to the people of Africa or other developing democracies.

“An assassination attempt on the former president, who is also running as an election candidate, is the height of political gangsterism and a violent ideology. It is unworthy of a country that prides itself on being a leading democratic nation.”
