Michigan Football picks up 4-star DB Ivan Taylor, son of NFL star Ike Taylor, from Notre Dame

Four current and former Michigan gymnasts recently secured their tickets to the 2024 Olympics – and apparently they’re not the only Wolverines who can do a somersault.

On Monday, the Michigan football club made one of the biggest signings in recent history, bringing four-star safety Ivan Taylor, who had previously committed to Notre Dame, into its 2025 class.

Taylor, the 6-foot-4, 175-pound native of Winter Garden, Fla. (West Orange), is the No. 8 player in the Sunshine State according to 247Sports’ overall rankings. The defensive back is also ranked as the No. 5 safety in the country and the No. 50 player overall in the rising senior class.

Given his football lineage, it’s no surprise that Taylor is such a highly-rated talent. His father, Ike Taylor, was a former NFL cornerback and two-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, recording 134 pass defenses and 14 interceptions in 140 games from 2003-14.

As for Ivan, who committed to Notre Dame last December, he made another trip to South Bend on June 14, but then made a detour to Ann Arbor the following week, which seemed to be enough to turn the tide.

“A highly intelligent safety prospect with top-tier NFL bloodlines and a top-notch testing profile,” wrote Andrew Irvins, scouting director for 24/7 Sports. “Quick on his feet and very agile. Spent most of his prep career in a two-man system and showed he can get where he needs to go.”

“Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter for a top-25 program. Likely finds a home at the third level of defense, but is tenacious enough in man coverage to potentially warrant a look at center back on Saturdays.”

This not only continues the Wolverines’ impressive summer haul, but also the extremely impressive first recruiting class for new defensive backs coach Lamar Morgan. With the signing of Ivan Taylor, UM now has three top-100 prospects in the 2025 class.

Ivan Taylor is the 13th addition to head coach Sherrone Moore’s first recruiting class, ranking him 22nd in the country, and more top players are expected to follow.
