(The Hill) – Ivanka Trump says she is praying for the country after former President Trump said he was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and the other victims of today’s senseless violence,” Trump’s 42-year-old daughter said in a statement posted on social media platform X on Saturday.

The Secret Service said in a statement that a “suspected gunman fired multiple shots from an elevated position outside the rally venue from the stage” while Trump was speaking at the campaign rally. The former president is “safe and under investigation.”

Authorities said one bystander was killed and two people were injured; the incident is reportedly being investigated as an attempted murder.

Ivanka Trump thanked the authorities and wrote: “I am grateful to the Secret Service and all other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive action today.”

“I continue to pray for our country,” wrote Trump, who was a senior adviser in her father’s administration.

“I love you, Dad, today and always,” she added.

On the same evening in 2022 that her father announced he would run for the White House in the 2024 presidential election, Ivanka Trump said she had no plans to “get involved in politics.”

The mother of three said in an interview earlier this month that she would not campaign with her father because she would rather spend time raising her young children. There is “a lot of darkness” in politics, Trump said.
