“Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and the other victims of today’s senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania. I am grateful to the Secret Service and all other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions today,” Ivanka said in a post on X.

“I continue to pray for our country. I love you, Dad, today and always,” she added.

“Sounded like a bang on the 4th of July”: Witnesses report chaos at rally

As Trump’s security guards quickly formed a protective barrier around him, a supporter in the crowd shouted, “They’re not going to hunt you down.” The guards escorted the former president to a waiting vehicle. Despite the obvious danger, he raised his fist defiantly in the air.

Erin Autenreith, a front-row attendee, shared her initial reaction to the incident. “I was so excited. I just looked at him. Then I heard these banging noises. It sounded like the Fourth of July, bang, bang, bang.”

It was only when the agents surrounded Trump and brought him to the ground that Autenreith realized the seriousness of the situation. As the sixth rally attendee and a full-time volunteer, she noticed a small trail of blood on Trump’s right cheek when he stood up again. Trump later shared on his social media platform Truth Social that he was “hit by a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken over the investigation and reiterated its lead role in a statement: “The FBI has assumed the role of lead federal law enforcement agency in the investigation of the incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred today in Butler, Pennsylvania.”
