Michigan authorities react to Trump’s injury at Pennsylvania rally

LANSING, Michigan (WILX) – Former President Donald Trump and likely Republican nominee was injured Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania.

Witnesses at the rally said they heard eight to 10 gunshots. Trump was seen with a bloody ear, but it is unclear what specific injury he sustained.

Now Michigan officials are responding to the alleged shooting:

“Pray for President Trump and America.” Michigan GOP Chairman Pete Hoekstra posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“There is no place for political violence in this country, period. That is not how we resolve our differences. I am appalled by this news and we will be monitoring the situation closely. I am grateful to law enforcement who immediately intervened,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

“Political violence is unacceptable, no matter when, where or against whom. I pray for the former president’s speedy recovery and am grateful to all the police officers who intervened to protect all those attending the rally from further violence. May this disturbing incident mark a turning point – away from hateful rhetoric and threats and toward more decency for all,” said Jocelyn Benson, Michigan Secretary of State.

“Political violence is unacceptable under any circumstances. I sincerely hope that all parties involved in this horrific act are brought to justice and held accountable,” wrote Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

“Today’s assassination attempt is a direct result of eight years of demonization by the radical left and unprecedented vitriol toward President Trump. Please join me in praying for President Trump and our country,” tweeted Congresswoman Lisa McClain of Michigan.

“They tried to silence him. They tried to lock him up. And now they’ve tried to kill him,” posted Representative John James.

“Praying for President Trump,” posted Rep. Tim Walberg.

“Violence is never the answer. I am glad the former president is safe. I hope the other participants in today’s rally are OK. I am following the situation closely and am grateful to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their immediate response to this horrific incident,” said Congressman Dan Kildee of Michigan.

“We pray for President Trump and our country,” said Michigan Republican Senate leader Aric Nesbitt.

President Joe Biden also responded to the incident, posting the following on X: “I have been informed of the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I am grateful to hear that he is OK and safe. I am praying for him and his family and everyone who was at the rally as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There is no place for this type of violence in America. We must unite as a nation to condemn it.”
