Phil Hellmuth holds several World Series of Poker (WSOP) records. But there is one he now shares with Jeremy Ausmussix-time bracelet winner (maybe soon seven-time?).

Ausmus, a Poker Hall of Fame inductee, has reached the final table of Event #91: $3,000 HORSE (8-Handed), not only taking first place in the race for WSOP Player of the Year, but also making history.

One of the most impressive poker records of all time

In 2021, Hellmuth, who is the all-time best player with 17 bracelets, set the record for most official final table appearances in a single series in Las Vegas with seven. The “Poker Brat” accomplished this without reaching a No-Limit Hold’em final table.

That record still stands, but as of Saturday night, Ausmus has caught up with it with his seventh final table appearance of the summer. Unlike Hellmuth in 2021, Ausmus hasn’t won a bracelet in 2024… yet. But he will have a seventh chance to win one in the $3k HORSE event.

Final table appearances at the WSOP 2024 for Jeremy Ausmus

EVENT LOCATION PRICE
$3,000 HORSE ? ?
$10,000 No Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship 4 130,794 USD

$2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout 3 209,358 USD
$1,500 SHOOTOUT No-Limit Hold’em 4 109,071 USD

If Ausmus doesn’t win a tournament this summer, his 2024 run will undoubtedly go down as the best bracelet-less streak of all time. And it could still be considered one of the best of all time.

Ausmus has final-tabled four No-Limit Hold’em events, two mixed games and one No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw. He has played deep in a wide range of buy-ins, from $1,500 all the way up to the $250,000 Super High Roller, and that list includes poker’s second most prestigious tournament – the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.

Impact on the WSOP Player of the Year

Ausmus’ performance at the 2024 WSOP was record-breaking, giving him an equal chance of becoming Player of the Year as anyone else.

But he must Scott Seiberwho has been at the top of the POY leaderboard for quite some time now thanks to winning three bracelets in 2024.

Despite the three-bracelet streak, Seiver is having a pretty entertaining battle with Ausmus for the Player of the Year title. Before Saturday’s game, Seiver had 3,793 points, while Ausmus had 3,510. Chance Kornuth was in third place with 3,314, but it seems like this is a two-man race with only a few events left.

The top of the leaderboard will change significantly when the $3k HORSE event ends. Ausmus is guaranteed at least 273.36 points, enough to overtake Seiver (more on that in a moment), but he has the potential to score as much as 994.03 points with a bracelet win.

Seiver’s points for Player of the Year will also skyrocket as he will compete in a hybrid online live final table on Sunday, a $10,000 buy-in tournament that began at WSOP Online. If he wins that event, he would become the first player to win four bracelets in the same year, one year before he is inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame at age 40.

Ausmus entered Day 3 of the HORSE event sixth in chips out of 17 remaining players. He weakened a little as the day progressed. Shortly before the final table, he doubled Adrienne Carter in Seven Card Stud and had fallen to the second smallest stack, with nine players remaining and only Carter leading.

Carter would inevitably be eliminated in ninth place, making it official that Ausmus had tied the record. At the time of publication, David “ODB” Baker was the chip leader. First place will be worth $206,321. Be sure to follow PokerNews Live coverage from the $3k HORSE final table.
