UWItv enters Panama through + Mobile TV

Panama is the latest addition to UWItv’s growing network of broadcast territories. A recent agreement signed by Cable & Wireless Panama’s +Mobile TV has brought the University of the West Indies’ (UWI) official multimedia platform’s 24/7 programming to a wider audience in Central America and the world. As an extension of UWItv’s partnership with FLOW, viewers will be able to receive the university channel nationwide on +Móvil TV channel 521 in Panama and enjoy UWItv’s highly informative content that promotes innovation and positive change towards investment in the region.

Panama is UWItv’s second Central American territory, following its entry into Belize in 2021. Offering television content in Panama is significant given the Caribbean region’s rich history with Panama, marked by migration, trade and diplomatic relations. This important connection between the Caribbean and Panama is particularly evident in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and, more recently, Barbados.

“Flow continues to be an invaluable partner for the UWI, pushing us beyond the boundaries we envisioned for UWItv,” says UWI Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles. This academic-industry venture has transformed the University, given the world a closer look at our core business and revolutionized our performance. At the UWI, we are always looking to the future and having a partner like Flow to help us do that is critical.

Janet Caroo, CEO of UWItv, said of the alliance: “We are excited about the prospect of cross-fertilization that will bring both regions closer together through digital television. We look forward to sharing our existing programming and the opportunities for new content inspired by Panamanian culture.”

Lourdes González, Senior Content Marketing Manager at +Móvil TV, emphasizes: “We benefit from the invaluable educational value that UWItv brings to Cable & Wireless Panama’s commercial offer in Panama, enriching the analysis through television discussions on the international financial reality accessible to the public.”

This expansion to Panama is the second for the UWI FLOW service, scheduled to be realized in 2024. Earlier this year, the UWItv channel was added to the HubTV network in Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago, channel 117, as part of the expansion of FLOW.
