Will Smith sings the theme song from “Fresh Prince” at La Velada 4

This is a story about how Will Smith is extending his return to music. Last month, the Bad Boys: Ride Or Die The star celebrated his surprise return to the stage at the BET Awards with the song “You Can Make It,” which featured Kirk Franklin.

Today (July 13), Smith is staying old-fashioned at his performance at La Velada del Año IV in Spain’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Instead of playing his latest song, Smith treated boxing fans to a mashup of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air title song and his single “Switch” from 2005.

Although most new fans are more familiar with the reboot of the series, Bel-Airbetween 1990 and 1996, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air dominated television.

“Blessed are the ears of those who can hear Will Smith sing the intro to ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ live,” wrote one user (roughly translated into English).

“I think it’s great that he’s back on stage and just having fun. That’s what legends deserve,” wrote another.

Another pointed out how great the selection of Will Smith was, since the evening was all about getting influencers in the ring.

“The ultimate influencer Will Smith was a great fit,” wrote one user.

Ironically, despite its popularity, the record was never supposed to be released. In June 2022, during an interview WTOPDJ Jazzy Jeff, Smith’s longtime friend, collaborator and writer of the song, made the confession.

“I thought we were doing a filler song,” he said. “I thought that was something they would use until they figured out what the actual theme song was. We did it, I mixed it, and that’s the same thing that’s on TV today. It still drives me crazy. It’s never changed.”

Apparently the producers recognized the same special quality that listeners have held on to for many decades.
