“Mirror, mirror on the wall, what is this little blemish?” he wrote. “There was this weird looking bump under my right eye. I had a tube of Neosporin with me that I applied morning and night… it was still there. It was time to call my dermatologist.

“I sat in his chair and he looked at it through a magnifying mirror. He told me he had to scrape it off and put it under the microscope. Now I’m getting a little nervous. He comes back about 20 minutes later and says the C-word. You have cancer. I asked him what kind of cancer and he said basal cell carcinoma. I told him to stop calling me names. He laughed.”

Fortunately, the carcinoma on Richard’s face was treated over the course of three treatments, but his encounter with the disease definitely seems to have left its mark, as he mentioned it in several subsequent posts. Richard also shared that he had shoulder surgery and had his right knee replaced.

Always empathetic, Richard encouraged his fans and followers to take care of themselves if they were also feeling unwell. “If something doesn’t feel right with your body, please make an appointment with your doctor,” he wrote.
