Warfront filly Bullet races home in My Dear

After making his successful racecourse debut in the Royal Palm Juvenile Turf on 11 May, DJ Stable resisted the urge to accept a contract at Royal Ascot. Bullet (War Front) switched to an artificial turf for “My Dear S.” on Saturday and recorded an equally remarkable success.

The $425,000 Keeneland September yearling was running tied for fourth and fourth on the turn, having to give ground when Carlisle Bay pulled away at five sixteenths, but Bullet easily made up that point under hand encouragement with an eighth and a half to go and rocketed away to look set for a one-two.

“She’s one of them, believe me, she’s one of them,” said winning jockey Patrick Husbands when asked where Bullet ranks on the list of the best two-year-old fillies he has ridden. “You can do anything with that mare. You can lead, you can do anything. She’s just brilliant – you can do anything with her.”

Bullet is out of a winning daughter of the 2000 champion three-year-old mare Surfside, who was purchased in foal by Gainesway for $500,000 from Giant’s Causeway at Keeneland in November 2009. That in utero purchase became GSW Irish Surf. The third dam, Flanders, was the Eclipse Award-winning mare of 1994 who won the GI Spinaway Stakes, GI Frizette Stakes and GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
