3-star IOL Kaden Strayhorn, Michigan State legend, commits to the Wolverines

The intrastate rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State is fierce year-round, and when the son of a prominent figure from one school decides to attend the other school, it creates quite a stir.

This is the case with the three-star offensive player from the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Kaden Strayhornthe son of MSU football radio reporter and former Spartan defensive tackle Jason Strayhorn. In late June, the younger Strayhorn signed with head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines, alongside offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami and over 20 others.

At 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds, Strayhorn is considered the No. 448 prospect, No. 27 offensive lineman and No. 59 player from Florida in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Despite his obvious ties to Michigan State, there were reports that new Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith and offensive line coach Jim Michalczik did not heavily recruit Strayhorn in the weeks leading up to his commitment to UM.

With that understanding, Moore and UM offensive line coach Grant Newsome were more than happy to add an offensive player from a football-focused high school like IMG Academy to their class. Strayhorn joins his teammate at IMG Academy Donovan Johnsona four-star running back in the Wolverines’ class. He is also the second new addition to the offensive line, alongside four-star tackle Wylie E. Groves from Franklin (Michigan) Avery Gach.

With 15 verbal commitments, Michigan’s class of 2025 is currently ranked 12th in the country and fourth in the Big Ten. The Wolverines’ average player rating of 91.85 is eighth-best nationally and third-best in the conference.
