The biggest TV series dominate Netflix, Apple TV+, Max and more

When it comes to the most viewed streaming series on television right now, it’s a battle between existing favorites and new releases.

The latest weekly Top 10 charts from streaming search engine Reelgood, for example, are largely dominated by existing franchises (as is the case again this week with the No. 1 series, The bearwhich is now in its third season), while there are only a few exceptions in the form of brand new television series. Examples of the latter are the new superhero drama from Netflix Supacallabout black superstars from South London and Prime Videos My Lady Jane – A Bridgerton-Style historical romanticism

Reelgood says it monitors 20 million TV viewing decisions each month across all streaming platforms in the U.S. — from Apple TV+ to Max, Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, and more. In the 7-day period that ended July 10, these are the 10 TV series that topped Reelgood’s latest list:

  1. The bear (FX/Hulu)
  2. From presumption of the innocent (AppleTV+)
  3. The young (PrimeVideo)
  4. House of the Dragon (HBO/Max)
  5. My Lady Jane (PrimeVideo)
  6. Supacell (Netflix)
  7. Your Honor (Netflix)
  8. The Acolyte (Disney+)
  9. Good behavior (Max)
  10. Devilish (Outstanding+)

The Bears The dominance of the number one spot is probably no surprise, even if the third season is proving to be the most controversial yet. For example, the third season’s critics’ score currently stands at a respectable 89% on Rotten Tomatoes – compared to a pretty awful audience score of 54%, based on more than 1,000 user reviews.

Still, I expect the show to stay at number 1 for at least a few more weeks, if not longer.

Meanwhile, the most interesting new TV series are the new releases mentioned above: Supacelland especially My Lady Jane. I have written more about them here and here. Suffice it to say that both bring a refreshing originality to their respective genres, with Supacell brings a much-appreciated, original approach to the superhero genre, after years of creative inactivity from Marvel, while My Lady Jane goes the Bridgerton Route – a mix of British royal history with sexiness and an ironic humor that ensures that the series does not take itself too seriously.

Both are absolutely worthy additions to your watchlist if you’re looking for something different and are tired of the usual suspects from the major streamers.
