God Of War Ragnarök PC History

God of War Ragnarök unfolds its narrative tapestry several years after the events chronicled in the previous game, picking up with Kratos and his adolescent son Atreus living isolated lives in the snowy wilds of Midgard. But things soon take a turn for the worse when the former Queen of the Valkyries, Freya, hunts Kratos down to avenge her son’s murder, while the powerful Norse deities Odin and his viciously unstable son Thor also appear in Midgard and have debts of their own to settle. Without straying too far into spoiler territory, you’ll need to have played through the previous God of War title, which released on PC in 2022, to get a full picture of what’s going on here in Sony Santa Monica’s thunderous sequel, so if you’re not familiar with the Norse-tinged trials and tribulations of Kratos, you can catch up on the previous God of War here.

God Of War Ragnarök PC Gameplay

Much like its direct predecessor, God of War Ragnarök is a sprawling third-person action-adventure game that relies on emotive close-quarters combat and relentlessly immersive exploration. As Kratos, the titular (if now somewhat retired) God of War, players will face off against all manner of grotesque and epic bosses from the deepest depths of Norse mythology, using his various weapons depending on the violent situation at hand.

There is, in fact, a lot of strategy and intelligence in God of War Ragnarök’s combat system. Some enemies are weaker against Kratos’ frosty Leviathan Axe (which can be thrown from a distance as well as used up close), while others are more actively thwarted by our protagonist’s legendarily fiery Blades of Chaos. Those who have engaged with Kratos’ previous adventure will also recognize the role of his trusty shield, allowing our fatally desperate father to confidently block and deflect incoming attacks. There is also a third weapon you’ll collect in God of War Ragnarök that is completely different from the two weapons previously mentioned, but again, at the risk of giving anything away, I won’t give anything away. Suffice it to say, Kratos’ arsenal is as satisfying to use as it is tactical.

A nice addition to all of this is Atreus, Kratos’ own son, who is now a highly capable ally in battle. Not only can Atreus “pull” enemies away from Kratos with his constant barrage of bow-based attacks, but he also has his own skill trees and can unleash devastating elemental and arcane attacks on his enemies to deal them even more damage. There’s something of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda about the whole thing, too, with breathtaking exploration driven by the idea of gaining new abilities that give you access to previously inaccessible areas and secrets – prompting eager explorers to scour every inch of God of War Ragnarök’s immaculately rendered worlds.

It’s also no great exaggeration to say that God of War Ragnarök not only features one of the most epic final battles of any video game of the past decade, but also by far one of the best bar brawls ever seen in the medium. To say it’s a feast for the eyes would be an understatement. It’s also worth noting that, much like its immediate predecessor, everything that happens in God of War Ragnarök happens in a single, seamless camera shot. This means that whether you’re squashing a few enemies or in a cutscene, the whole thing is just beautifully stitched together as one continuous shot. It remains a stunning visual flourish that gives God of War Ragnarök a deeply cinematic quality that few other games can easily achieve.

God Of War Ragnarök Valhalla – What is it?

When the credits roll on God of War Ragnarök’s nearly one hundred hour long story campaign, there’s plenty more for armchair mythological warriors to sink their teeth into. God of War Ragnarök’s Valhalla DLC is part of the package that PC gamers can jump into from day one. Not only does it serve as an epilogue of sorts to the events of Ragnarök, where Kratos comes to terms with his past life in ancient Greece, but it also offers players a variety of different roguelike trials that will push your combat skills to the absolute limit.

God Of War Ragnarök PC Features

Much like many of PlayStation Studios’ previous PC ports, God of War Ragnarök’s PC debut isn’t a simple port of the original PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 releases. Right from the start, God of War Ragnarök on PC cleverly takes advantage of the vastly increased power of top-tier CPUs and graphics cards, resulting in crisp native 4K resolution, a huge range of visual presets, and unlocked frame rate support. In addition to its 21:9 ultra-widescreen capability, God of War Ragnarök on PC is also a full member of the image upscaling club, offering support for the most modern NVIDIA DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1, and Intel XeSS 1.2 upscalers, allowing gamers to reach higher resolutions without compromising frame rate. Additionally, the release of God of War Ragnarök on PC also brought support for NVIDIA’s Reflex low-latency technology, providing an additional level of responsiveness beyond what is normally possible.

Where can I see the latest trailer?

The latest trailer for God of War Ragnarök on PC is now available, and you can watch it above. Considering it’s a PC port of an existing title, it probably shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the latest trailer for God of War Ragnarök on PC focuses primarily on the PC-centric upgrades that the Jetpack Interactive-developed project will bring to the table. Conveniently, the trailer, which is just over a minute and a half long, also offers a quick introduction to what you can expect from God of War Ragnarök in terms of story and gameplay.

PC system requirements
