Action fund set up to combat climate change

A council in Surrey is launching an action fund for projects that help mitigate the effects of climate change.

Elmbridge Council says the fund is for projects that make a “tangible difference” in raising awareness about carbon emissions, improving biodiversity and reducing energy, water and waste.

Each group can apply for up to £5,000 through the new Elmbridge Community Climate Action Fund.

Ashley Tilling, Council Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said: “Community-led projects can make a huge difference in reducing the impacts of climate change locally.”

Applications are welcome from non-profit organisations or community groups that focus primarily on supporting the local community, such as community halls and sports clubs.

The Council stated: “Since we declared a climate emergency in 2019, climate change and sustainability have been fundamental to our work and we remain committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.”

The application deadline for the funding round ends on September 1st at midnight.
