F-16s alone cannot win a war, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba tells CNN

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview with CNN that no single weapon could decisively influence the outcome of the Ukrainian war with Russia.

His claims came as Ukraine awaits F-16 fighter jets, which it expects will bolster its air defenses against Russian air superiority. Following U.S. approval last fall, training for Ukrainian pilots is underway in Denmark, the UK and the US, and they are expected to be combat-ready sometime in the summer.

In addition, Ukrainian politicians have repeatedly stressed the importance of attacking targets on Russian territory, such as bases and logistics. However, neither the US nor European countries are lifting the ban on using their weapons for such operations. Meanwhile, Ukrainian civilians and soldiers continue to suffer from Russian military aggression, and the number of casualties is increasing daily.

“We can only turn the situation around for the better if we have all the necessary weapons and a sufficient amount of equipment and ammunition.

For this reason, F-16s are as important as various types of air defense systems, battle tanks, armored vehicles and artillery ammunition. Together, they can and will be game-changers,” claimed the minister.

Earlier, during the NATO summit in Washington, the heads of state of Kyiv’s allied states signed the Ukraine Compact – a document containing commitments to the war-torn country. It unites the nations that have signed bilateral security agreements with Ukraine into a single, coordinated and comprehensive system.
