58 illnesses and 1 death reported in 27 states due to poisoning by Diamond Shruumz

Several reports of serious illnesses linked to Diamond Shruumz products have prompted health officials in Georgia and across the country to issue a warning about the products.

According to the Georgia Department of Health, the chocolate bars, wafers and gummy bears are not safe for consumption and should be discarded by all purchasers.

A news release from the DPH states that while the products are available in retail stores nationwide, some locations may still be selling them. Health officials are urging all retailers to remove the products from their shelves and consumers to discard any products they have purchased.

“Diamond Shruumz products may contain harmful and undisclosed ingredients, including psychoactive compounds that can cause serious illness if consumed,” the press release states. These “edibles” are often sold as gummy candies, chocolates, or other snacks that are often popular with children and teenagers.

Health officials say 58 illnesses linked to the products have been reported so far in 27 states. Of those sickened, more than half have been hospitalized and there is one death that is currently under investigation.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of this disease should contact their doctor immediately, the press release states. Symptoms of the disease include hallucinations, uncontrolled movements, fast or slow heartbeat, high or low blood pressure, flushed skin, and gastrointestinal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain). Other serious side effects have also been reported, including seizures, loss of consciousness, unconsciousness, confusion, drowsiness, and respiratory arrest.
