Ubisoft’s live-action Driver series may be dead, but the series itself is not

Ubisoft’s live-action series Driver has been canceled.

According to journalist Stephen Totilo, the production company behind the show, Binge, was shut down and with it the Driver series.

“We are ending our partnership with the Binge for a Driver series,” said a Ubisoft spokesperson.

However, that doesn’t mean the series itself is dead. Totilo says Ubisoft promises it is “actively working on other exciting projects related to the franchise.”

Ubisoft announced back in 2021 that Driver would be remastered as a live-action TV show, with release planned for 2022.

The last main game in the series was the criminally underrated Driver: San Francisco, released in 2011 for PC, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. It allowed you to “switch” from one car to another while the series’ protagonist, John Tanner, pursued his arch-enemy in a series of high-speed chases – all while in a coma.

After years of development hell, filming for Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs movie finally began recently.
