Eminem criticised for ‘sick and tasteless’ song on new album with controversial reference

Let’s face it: It’s not an Eminem album if it doesn’t receive significant backlash; after all, the 51-year-old originally made a name for himself through controversy and shock rap.

And from the beginning it was clear that his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) would be no different.

However, one song in particular was criticized by listeners for its “tasteless” reference to a real-life shooting in 2021.

On the song “Fuel,” the rapper – real name Marshall Mathers – refers to the death of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins, 42, after she was hit by a bullet from a prop gun on the set of the film. rust almost three years ago.

He raps: “But it’s in a holster, I’m going to destroy it/ Fuck around and get beat up like Halyna Hutchins

“Like I’m Alec Baldwin. What I mean is, wrestle you down, then deliver the coup de grace.”

Actor Alec Baldwin was recently on trial in New Mexico for manslaughter in connection with Hutchins’ death, but the case has since been dismissed by a judge.

Baldwin had claimed that he did not pull the trigger of the gun, which led to Hutchins’ death, and that others on set were responsible for safety checks on the weapon.

Eminem’s bold reference to the shooting shocked listeners, with many taking to social media to express their dislike for the song’s lyrics.

“Eminem dissing Halyna Hutchins and Alec Baldwin was not on my bingo card for 2024,” wrote one shocked fan on X, while others called the lyrics “disgusting,” “disrespectful,” and “tasteless.”

“I love him but this is extremely disrespectful to her family,” wrote a third person.

The allusion to Alec Baldwin and Halyna Hutchins was not the only text on The death of Slim Shady This also led to strong reactions. The rapper’s first single, “Houdini,” was criticized because it mentioned the shooting of his fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

“If I asked Megan Thee Stallion to collaborate with me / Would I really have a chance at success?” he sings in the track, seeming to make light of the fact that Stallion was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in 2020.

Several other celebrities also felt the rapper’s forked tongue on the album, in which Eminem summarily kills his infamous alter ego Slim Shady.

The rapper aimed at Aquaman Star Amber Heard in the track “Lucifer,” alluding to her 2022 defamation trial against Johnny Depp, while simultaneously brutally dissing fellow rapper Diddy in the song “Antichrist.”
