Jelly Roll reacts to Eminem’s sampling of “Save Me” on “The Death Of Slim Shady”

More Jelly Roll More Jelly Roll

Earlier this week, Eminem shared the tracklist for his highly anticipated new album, The death of Slim Shady (Coup de grace), ahead of its release yesterday (July 12). He surprised fans with the last song of the album, which jellyroll.

The only non-rap feature on Eminem’s new album, Jelly Roll, appears on Someone save me about a sample of save me. The LP’s melodic final track marks the end of the rapper’s alter ego’s journey through inner conflict and redemption.

An exploration of the rapper’s alter ego, Someone save me follows Eminem’s past addiction to prescription drugs, which almost led him to an overdose in 2007. The song apologizes for not being there for his children and particularly addresses themes from Developeda track that can be found on the rapper’s album revival.

On Instagram today (July 13), Jelly Roll discussed the impact of performances on Someone save me next to a photo of him and Eminem.

Jelly Roll called Eminem his “childhood hero” and wrote in an emotional post:

I always say that my childhood heroes lived somewhere between Willie Nelson and Eminem. As a teenager (and even today) I could recite every song on the Slim Shady album, the Marshal Mathers album, and the Eminem show. When I got out of prison at 17 and started sneaking into cyphers and battles in Nashville, they would also play the “Lose Yourself” beat when I got on stage at the freestyle battles. I could identify with every word Eminem wrote. I understood him and felt like he understood me, which was rare since I felt misunderstood most of my life.

So you can imagine how I felt when I got the call that Eminem was sampling my song “Save Me” on his new album. And for him to use the song to discuss the other side of what could have happened if he had let his demons win brought me to tears. If you haven’t heard it yet, listen to “Somebody Save Me” on Eminem’s new album, The Death of Slim Shady. A special shout out to (Eminem’s manager) Paul Rosenberg, you have always been very kind to me and treated me like family and given me opportunities I didn’t deserve. I am eternally grateful.

Last month Jelly Roll released his new single, I am not okayafter premiere to the final of The voice US.

Written by Jelly Roll, he said about the song on Instagram“I Am Not Okay is out now. For anyone going through something right now – it’s okay to not be okay, but it’s going to be okay!”
