Crowd in Michigan chants in support of Biden as pressure mounts: ‘Don’t give up’

President Joe Biden held a campaign rally in Detroit, Michigan, on Friday night, where a crowd implored him not to call off his re-election campaign, despite a growing number of Democrats in Congress saying the opposite.

“You made me the nominee. No one else. Not the press, not the pundits, not the insiders, not the donors. You, the voters, decided. No one else. And I’m not going anywhere,” Biden said, adding that he was “not finished yet.”

Earlier, those present had shouted “Don’t stop!” and “We’re behind you!” And when Biden made critical comments about media representatives, he was booed by the crowd.

“You may have noticed that the press – the good guys up there – have been bashing me since the debate,” Biden said, drawing negative reaction from his supporters.

“No, no, no, it’s OK,” Biden continued, trying to stifle the boos. “They’ve been ripping me off because I mix up names sometimes. I say that’s Charlie instead of Bill. But you know what? Donald Trump got a free pass.”

Trump’s verbal gaffes include repeatedly confusing Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Biden himself with former President Barack Obama. Trump also flubbed a line last month when trying to mock his rival.

Biden also took some personal swipes at the former president on Friday.

“It’s time for us to stop treating politics like entertainment and reality TV,” he said, referring to the former host of The ApprenticeBiden later mentioned Trump’s strange fixation on sharks of late, poking fun at his well-known pastime.

“Poor Donald,” Biden said. “He can’t even watch TV this week because it’s shark week.”

Biden also warned against “Project 2025,” a controversial right-wing agenda for Trump’s return to office that he has tried to distance himself from.

“Have you heard about it? It’s a blueprint for a second Trump term that every American should read and understand,” Biden said, adding that his opponent does not publicly endorse it, “just as he is trying to distance himself from repealing Roe v. Wade– because he knows how toxic it is. But we won’t allow that.”
