EPCSO: Son arrested for father’s shooting death on July 4

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An adult son has been arrested and charged in the July 4 shooting death of his father in Red Sands, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said 21-year-old Jair Navarro was arrested by the U.S. Marshals’ Lone Star Fugitive Task Force on Friday, July 12. Navarro is facing murder charges in connection with the death of his father, 39-year-old Arturo Navarro, the sheriff’s office said.


According to the sheriff’s office, the elder Navarro died on July 7 from complications from a gunshot wound to the head.

Shortly before midnight on July 4, the Texas Rescue Patrol and sheriff’s office officers responded to reports of a fight with gunfire in progress in Red Sands.

Arturo Navarro was found with a gunshot wound to the head and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and determined that Jair Navarro was responsible for shooting his father.

Detectives obtained a warrant for murder and the younger Navarro was found and arrested in the 11600 block of Datsun Drive in El Paso County.

He has been charged with murder and is being held on $750,000 bail.
