The French news agency AFP reported on Friday that Husam Badran, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, had expressed some willingness to end control of Gaza after the war.

Badran reportedly said that Hamas had proposed during the ceasefire talks that an independent, non-partisan government would administer the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories after the war.

“We proposed that a government with national authority, not affiliated with any party, would administer Gaza and the West Bank after the war,” Badran said of the negotiations.

Who will rule Gaza after the war?

“The administration that will be established in Gaza after the war is an internal Palestinian matter without any outside interference, and we have not discussed the ‘day after the war’ in Gaza with any other external entity.”

Another senior Hamas official told the French news agency that the proposal for a bipartisan government had already been presented to the mediating countries.

According to the report, the senior official acknowledged that this government would manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in the initial post-war phase and pave the way for general elections among the Palestinians.
