The Michigan State football team welcomes 3-star DB George Mullins this weekend

Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith and his coaching staff have spent the last few months trying to make up for a rocky start to Coach Smith’s era in East Lansing. They lost a lot of transfers and had to work hard to prepare for a busy June. Smith and the Spartans are looking to end the month on a high note.

The Spartans recently scheduled an official visit with a talented cornerback in the class of 2025. Smith and his coaching staff will host three-star cornerback George Mullins for an official visit to Michigan State on Friday. The recruit announced the visit on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Mullins is a three-star cornerback in the 2025 class, whose visit represents another opportunity for Smith and his coaching staff to secure a talented player for the 2025 recruiting class.

According to 247Sports, Mullins is the 62nd best cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class. He is also the 79th best player from Florida in the 2025 recruiting class. This would make Mullins one of the best players that Smith and his coaching staff could bring in the Spartans’ 2025 recruiting class.

Over 20 schools have offered Mullins a scholarship. According to 247Sports, Mullins has received offers from Mississippi State, Illinois and Oregon State in addition to Michigan State. The Spartans arguably have the best situation of the schools listed, but they too have many positions on the roster that still need to be resolved.

Smith and his coaching staff have done an admirable job of finding the talent necessary to rebuild the football program. However, the search will not be worth it if the Spartans cannot find talented players interested in them, such as MullinsThe Spartans must continue to actively recruit players if they hope to finish the 2025 recruiting cycle better than they currently are.

Smith and the Spartans want to have a successful first season together, starting with the first game. But to do that and be successful beyond this season, they must first have a successful offseason in recruiting players.
