Five players from the women’s team in action in the 2025 European Championship qualification

Five West Ham United Women’s Team Players were in action in UEFA Euro 2025 qualifying matches on Friday evening.

Kirsty Smith helped Scotland to a 2-0 away victory in Slovakia and continued their winning streak in Group 2 of League B.

The defender played 81 minutes of the match at the Štadión pod Zoborom, which was played in torrential weather, but that did not discourage the Scots, who maintained their place at the top of Group 2 thanks to two second-half goals from Claire Emslie.

Scotland will face Serbia in their final group match on Tuesday. A win or a draw would see Scotland top their group, advance to the qualifying playoffs and secure promotion to League A.

Halle Houssein came off the bench late to make her debut for Türkiye as the team lost 2-0 to Switzerland in Liga B Group 1 at the Kocaeli Stadium in Izmit.

The 19-year-old played her first international match in the 82nd minute and came onto the field when her team was already two goals behind.

Sydney Schertenleib and Ana-Maria Crnogorčević scored the goals that ultimately defeated Turkey. Türkiye will now be hoping for a better result when they face Hungary on Tuesday. A win would see Türkiye overtake Hungary, reach the play-offs and avoid possible relegation.

Elsewhere, Kinga Szemik made her first start for Poland since joining West Ham United, but was unable to help her side to a point as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Austria in League A Group 4.

Goals from Celina Degen, Eileen Campbell and Annabel Schasching made the home team’s victory in Altasch unassailable, and Natalia Padilla could do little to get Szemik and her team back into the game on a disappointing evening.

Poland will be hoping for a better result in their final qualifying match against Iceland on Tuesday, but relegation to League B is already certain after five defeats in five of five games.
