Shock: This stadium was voted the coolest in Michigan

Michigan State Spartans fans look away, this is not Spartan Stadium.

Still, there’s a lot to debate between the major stadiums in the state of Michigan. The state has a storied history with stadiums like the Silverdome, Joe Louis Arena, and Tiger Field. Still, Ford Field and Comerica Park hold their own pretty well.

But like in most states across the country, the debate over the coolest stadium in the state revolves around college football stadiums.

Again, Michigan has some strong competitors. Spartan Stadium has its own aura, while Waldo Stadium and Rynearson Stadium are incredibly unique.

But one stadium stands out above all the others in the Mitten State, even if the field is underground. Finance Buzz named the coolest stadium in every state, and choosing Michigan was probably an easy decision: Michigan Stadium.

The Big House was built in 1927 and is now the largest stadium in America with 107,601 seats. However, this capacity did not stop Michigan Stadium from setting the world record for American football in 2013: 115,109 fans crowded into the stadium to watch the Wolverines play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

If you think that record is impressive, Michigan Stadium has hosted 24 of the 25 highest-attended games in college football history. Beaver Stadium, Ohio Stadium and Kyle Field are real crowd pullers.

“The hole that Yost dug, Crisler paid, Canham carpeted, and Schembechler fills every cotton-picking Saturday afternoon,” as longtime Wolverine commentator Bob Ufer put it, the stadium has hosted at least 100,000 fans at every home game since November 8, 1975.

The list of reasons why Michigan Stadium is not only the coolest stadium in Michigan, but in the entire country, is long and will not be surpassed by any other building anytime soon.
