John Krasinski dances to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” in hilarious ad

Dancing alone and making up the moves as he goes, in a hilarious new commercial, John Krasinski lets his freak flag fly as he indulges in a solo dance party to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” something Swifties around the world can definitely relate to.

In the 30-second spot shared by Canadian entertainment and communications company Rogers on Friday (July 12), A quiet place Star stands alone on a small boat in the middle of Lake Simcoe in Ontario. After looking around to make sure no one is watching him, he presses play on the Popstar 1989 (Taylor’s version) He lets it rip and lets it rip, invents his own choreography and moves his lips to the lyrics.

But when he realizes that a fisherman across the street has been watching him the whole time, Krasinski falters – until the canoeist starts dancing with him. “We do our thing so you can do yours,” a comment ends the video. “We got you.”

Rogers’ use of Swift’s music is fitting – the company is the main sponsor of the 14-time Grammy winner’s Eras Tour concerts in Canada. After wrapping up her European tour in August, she will do a brief second run in the U.S. before wrapping up the year-and-a-half-long tour with performances in Toronto and Vancouver in November and December.

Krasinski’s ad is just the latest commercial to feature a Swift song, a practice that has become increasingly common since she began reclaiming her masters by re-recording her first six albums in 2021 (at this point, she has only released her 2006 self-titled debut and 2017’s Call to remake). In October midnight “Mastermind” was released in a Survivors advertising, while “Welcome to New York” was the soundtrack to an NFL commercial in September.
