Bad news for people who chant “Please resign” at Chris Jericho

Bad news for people who chant “Please resign” at Chris Jericho

John Cena’s recently announced farewell tour has sparked a lot of reflection in the wrestling community. Most of it is about Cena’s legendary career, but there’s also some for those who have been around just as long, or even longer, than the 16-time WWE World Champion.

Chris Jericho falls into the second group. For a variety of reasons, Jericho has recently gone from being a crowd favorite to someone a portion of the audience would clamor to see go. He’s tried to channel that into his recent character reinvention in AEW (the jury is still out on whether or not that effort has been successful), which in itself is a sign that the 53-year-old has no plans to hang up his boots anytime soon.

However, to make it clear, he recently told the McGuire on Wrestling Podcast that there is no timetable for his own retirement:

“I’ll know when the time comes. I’m having a lot of fun and I’m still contributing. I can still deliver top matches on any given night – not all the time, but often enough. I love what we’re doing with AEW right now, so there’s no rush to retire. When the time comes, I’ll know. As long as I’m having fun and feeling good in and out of the ring, there’s no reason to stop right now.”

So… sing loudly if you feel like it. But don’t expect anything more than an ironic “Hi guys” in response.
