Findlay Rotary Club presents “Service Above Self Award”

(From Findlay Rotary Club)

At the club meeting on Wednesday, July 10, the Findlay Rotary Club presented Gary Steed with the Service Above Self Award.

The award is given annually to a non-Rotarian from the community who embodies the Rotary ideals of professional leadership and service.

Rotarian Harold “Puck” Rowe of Findlay wrote in his nomination: “There are many in Findlay who deserve such an honor, and in my opinion Gary Steed is the most deserving. Gary has touched so many lives in such a positive way. We need more people like Gary.”

It’s a family affair. Gary and his wife Brenda and their three daughters have a deep connection to giving back.

The Steeds traveled to Haiti for ten years to work with the Haitians and teach them their Christian values.

Gary coached girls softball and was involved in 4H. He is a member of St Andrew’s UMC where he served in many capacities. He is proud of his work with Habitat for Humanity, the Backyard Mission and Welcome to a New Life.

A proud graduate of Ohio Northern University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Professionally, Steed retired in 2013 after a successful career as a quality assurance consultant at Marathon Pipe Line.

Gary has designated a $500 donation in his name from the Findlay Rotary Club for “Welcome to a New Life.”
