Chris Hayes points to a “very remarkable” moment at Biden’s press conference: It was “enlightening”

Chris Hayes pointed to Joe Biden’s “strong” statement that he must “finish the job” as a notable moment in the president’s press conference on Thursday, in which he reiterated his determination to stay in the 2024 presidential race.

The “All In” host told a panel of MSNBC anchors that he found Biden’s remarks “very remarkable,” adding that they provided “insight” into his thinking amid calls for the president to prove he is up to the task of leadership or resign.

“I compared him to a star starter in the World Series in Game 7 of the World Series with four outs left in a close game where 120 pitches were made,” Hayes said.

The host noted that the baseball team “never wants to leave” when their manager approaches the mound to pull the pitcher out.

“They curse into their glove … they fight it,” Hayes said.

“For me, that was an honest articulation of where all that motivation comes from, even if he’s wrong about his own political prospects. Or he’s denying the unstoppable evolution of a mortal human being like all of us. That was eye-opening for me.”

Biden, who insisted he would continue his fight for re-election, asked in the press conference whether people believed that “democracy was in danger” in light of recent Supreme Court decisions, the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 and former President Donald Trump’s stated plans for a second term.

“We have never been here before and that is the only reason I have not said, ‘Let’s hand over responsibility to the next generation,'” he told reporters immediately before his “let’s finish the job” remark.
