Aer Lingus pilots call off industrial action as union backs pay rise deal – AeroTime

The Aer Lingus pilots’ union has called off its planned industrial action lasting several weeks after agreeing to a new pay increase on the recommendation of the employment court.

The industrial action began on June 26, 2024, when pilots demanded a 24% pay increase.

According to the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association (IALPA), the salary package of Aer Lingus’ management increased by 66 percent between 2019 and 2024. The association is demanding that pilots also receive a pay rise.

On 10 July 2024, IALPA leaders agreed to recommend that Aer Lingus pilot members vote for the deal brokered by the Labour Court, which provides for a 17.75% pay increase, and to end the industrial action that has disrupted the airline’s operations.

“Aer Lingus pilots returned to full employment today after IALPA suspended its industrial action pending a vote among members,” IALPA said in a Facebook post.

The union has stated that it will hold a series of discussions with its members ahead of the vote, which is scheduled to begin on July 18, 2024 and end on July 23, 2024.

“Aer Lingus welcomes Forsa/IALPA’s recommendation to accept the Employment Tribunal’s recommendation and their decision to discontinue industrial action,” the airline said in a statement.
