Unifor holds solidarity rally for Best Theratronics workers after strike lasted 75 days

Vancouver, British Columbia.—Unifor and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will hold a solidarity rally outside Best Theratronics’ Kanata facility on July 15, after Unifor members have been on strike for 75 days without a solution in sight.

“This employer has refused to negotiate and threatened our members with job loss, violating their constitutional right to free and fair collective bargaining. This is union busting, pure and simple. That’s why we’re taking the fight to their doorstep,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.

Unifor Local 1541 members began a strike on May 1 after Best Theratronics owner Krishnan Suthanthiran dragged out the collective bargaining negotiations and repeatedly offered zero percent wage increases. Over the long Victoria Day weekend, Suthanthiran sent an e-mail tirade in which he portrayed Canadian workers as spoiled and lazy.
