Cat’s reaction to mom’s voice on pet camera makes the internet laugh

A cat’s horrified reaction when it heard its owner’s voice through the pet camera went viral on TikTok, sparking hysterical reactions among internet viewers.

The cat’s fear was captured in a video shared by TikTok user @izzy.briea, which has already been viewed over 8.4 million times and liked over 2.2 million times within a few days.

After first hearing her owner’s voice from the pet camera, the footage shows the orange cat trying to sneak up on the mysterious device and get a closer look. Her paw is in the frame first, before her head peeks out from underneath and stares into the lens.

As the cat gradually appears in the picture, she does her best to bring out her inner Tom Cruise from the Impossible mission movies, and social media users can’t get enough of her sneak attack.

There’s no doubt that this cat was surprised to hear its owner’s voice, but talking to a cat can be very calming for them. The Cats Protection, a charity in the UK, says that speaking to a cat quietly and in a soothing tone can help them to relax if they seem stressed or uncomfortable.

In fact, studies have shown that cats can distinguish the voice of their owner from that of a stranger. They may even be able to tell when their owner is speaking directly to them.

Although cats cannot understand the meaning of words, Cat Protection says they recognise the sound of words and the connections they make with them. For example, if owners regularly say the word ‘treat’ and then give the cat a tasty snack, it will gradually learn that this sound leads to a tasty treat.

If you go away and have to leave your cat alone for a short time, don’t worry; they should still remember you when you get back together, as they will recognise your scent and voice. It’s unclear how long cats remember their owner when they’re separated, but if they’re reunited in a familiar environment, such as the family home, they’re more likely to remember them immediately.

Since the video went viral, the orange cat’s antics with the pet cam have left internet viewers shaking with laughter. At the time of this writing, the video has garnered over 9,200 comments.

TikTok user @izzy.briea even responded to many of the reactions, saying that at the time she “felt so bad for scaring her cat,” who was “so suspicious” of the strange talking camera.
