The song serves as a second preview of the Manchester band’s fourth album “Smitten”, which is due to be released on September 20th via Dirty Hit (pre-order/pre-save here).

“‘Glasgow’ is my favorite song on ‘Smitten,'” explained frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie. “It’s about leaving someone because you know it’s not good for either of you anymore. It kind of breaks my heart, but it makes me so euphoric at the same time.”

In the ascending chorus she sings: “When I left you in Glasgow, I remember crying on the way home. Yes, I had to go and get out of there. Oh, because there was nothing left. Nothing left that we could fix..”

In the bittersweet, 80s-esque song, Baron-Gracie also reflects on a relationship at “the beginning of summer“. Later, she ponders whether her decision, “run away” was a “Mistake“.

There is an official video for “Glasgow” in which the singer – wearing a wedding dress and denim jacket – packs a suitcase and drives off in a convertible. You can listen to it here:

Pale Waves recently announced a UK headline tour for this autumn, including a performance at Here at Outernet in London. Remaining tickets are available here and the full schedule is below.

Last month, the group released “Perfume” as the first single from “Smitten.” The upcoming album follows 2022’s “Unwanted” and was written over two years in the US and UK.

“I realized that I was not just writing about a specific period of time, but about my entire life years ago,” Baron-Gracie said in an earlier statement.

“When I fall in love, I fall deeply in love and I find it interesting that you can be so fascinated and enamored by someone and then they become a complete stranger. I think ‘Smitten’ really perfectly sums up how I felt about others at one point in time.”

Last November, the band announced they were working on the album – and called it their “best yet.”
