“Practical Magic 2” is an adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s novel “The Book of Magic”

A sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy film Applied Magic is currently in production at Warner Bros. Although very little plot information was released when the sequel was announced, producer Denise Di Novi says the film will stay true to the source material.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Di Novi revealed that the plot will be heavily based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel. The Book of Magic. “I think (the fans) will be very happy. We will be very loyal. We recognize how important these characters and this film are to so many people,” explained Di Novi. “We are not going to reinvent the wheel. We will follow Alice Hoffman’s books, as the first film did, and we will stay true to the chronology of how many years later it is.”

“It will be in 2025, but I’m not sure exactly when,” Di Novi said: “We are just starting the script and Akiva Goldsman, who worked on the original and 10 million other things since then, is writing the script.” Although Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who starred in Applied Magic Since sisters Sally and Gillian Owens have agreed to reprise their roles and produce the film, Di Novi is “not 100 percent sure which (other) characters will return.”
