Having completed her MA in Songwriting at the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick last year, Limerick native Tríona Horan is delighted to present her first release from a collection of new original material on July 12th.

While in Wexford, Horan unexpectedly embarked on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. During this time, she began to explore her sexuality, which also formed the basis for the song “Love is Love”.

“I’ve considered myself straight my whole life and when I realised that wasn’t true, I felt a huge sense of freedom. This song is about celebrating that and acknowledging that I’m bisexual,” says Tríona.

While happily settling back into life in Limerick, Tríona connected with a very supportive community of local artists and writers and entered her hometown’s diverse music scene as a folk artist. A hugely successful crowdfunding campaign put her on the path to recording ‘Love is Love’ with local producer, studio engineer and musician Ben Wanders of Wanderland Recording.

“Love is love, a song about self-expression, has a folk-pop feel with embedded electronic elements, and although the song is deeply personal, I see it as a celebration of Pride for the wider queer community,” said Tríona, continuing: “A reminder that everyone should be granted the freedom to be themselves and the opportunity to love in a way that brings them joy, despite the pervasive hate crimes against the LGBTQAI+ community.”

To celebrate her debut single, Tríona, daughter of the late singer-songwriter Tadhg Horan, will play an opening concert at the Treaty City Brewery on Nicholas Street on Friday 26 July at 9pm, where she will be joined by Deanna McDonagh on drums and Eugene Wogan on bass.
