Music fans expected nothing but caustic and offensive old songs from Eminem on his latest album and were obviously not prepared for his heartbreaking song dedicated to his daughter.

Eminem’s latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)has been highly anticipated for months and fans are excited to see how the legendary rapper will reflect on and reference his past glory and heyday.

Fans already got a taste of the album with the song “Houdini,” which Eminem, real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III, released in May.

The song was received positively and contained numerous references to some of his older hits.

So fans expected something similar for the full album, which is being released today (July 12), but were surprised by one song: “Temporary”.

The song is a love letter to the rapper’s 28-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade, at the time of his death.

Fans who are familiar with Eminem’s back catalogue will have noticed him mentioning his successes and failures in the context of parenthood, with songs like “Mockingbird” and “When I’m Gone” springing to mind.

Eminem opens “Temporary” with the words: “A lot of people ask me: Am I afraid of death?

“The truth is, I think what scares me most is that I won’t be able to tell you all the things I want to say when I’m no longer here.

“So this song is for Hailie, for when that day comes.”

The song even features an adorable audio recording of Eminem and his daughter when she was a toddler.

It comforts Hailie after the death of her father and fans admit that they cried the first time they heard it.

Many have noted on social media that it made them reflect on their own relationships with their parents and children.

“‘Temporary’ and ‘Somebody Save Me’ made me cry,” wrote one user on YouTube.

Another added: “This made me cry so hard. It makes me think of my own father. He was there for me even though he was doing drugs, going to jail and all that shit. It makes me realize there is still hope for him. Thank you Eminem.”

A third wrote: “We have listened to him dedicate these songs to her over the years and even now, at 28, after graduating from college and married, he still dedicates songs to her. Just incredible.”

And another fan commented: “My parents died two years apart when I was younger and now I’m a father of four 14 year olds and this song really touches me differently. Parents please let your children know you love them because one day you may not have the chance to tell them again or hear it from them again.”
