New “Batman” voice actor follows in Kevin Conroy’s footsteps

Following the death of Kevin Conroy in 2022, the new voice actor for Batman was announced.

Conroy first voiced Batman in the 1990s animated series and has since appeared in over 20 different projects, including Rocksteady’s Arkham Franchise.

In late 2022, it was confirmed that Conroy had died after a short battle with colon cancer, but starred posthumously in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League And MultiVersusEarlier this year, it was reported that Conroy’s Batman will also appear in the upcoming DC film Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three and the voice actor would also be in Amazon Prime VideoThe new animated series Batman: The Masked Crusader in a way.

Now the new voice actor for Batman has been announced. According to Vanity FairHamish Linklater will give Batman his voice in Batman: The Masked Crusader.

“I never imagined in a million years that I would actually get the role. Not only had I never been cast in a voice role before, but – it’s Batman! You don’t go from zero to Olympus,” Linklater said in an interview. “Then I got the call and I screamed so loudly. I just ran out, grabbed my kids and just thought: ‘Daddy is Batman!'”

Also taking part in the animation project are Cristina Ricci (The Addams Family, Yellow Jackets) as Catwoman, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn and Diedrich Bader as Two-Face. The series has been described as “reimagining the Batman mythology through the visionary lens of executive producers JJ Abrams, Mat Reeves and Bruce Timm.”

Batman’s iconic arch-enemy, the Joker, does not appear in the series, however. After Conroy’s death, Mark Hamill confirmed that he would step down as the voice of the Joker. “Without Batman, the crime has no punchline,” he said.

“He was one of my favorite people in the world and I loved him like a brother,” Hamill said, paying tribute to Conroy. “He really cared about the people around him – his decency shone through in everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke to him, my mood was brighter.”

In other news, Ubisoft has officially announced the release details of the Beyond Good and Evil Remaster, the game comes out next week.
