John Hunt family news: Victim’s partner pays tribute to ‘love of my life’ as Kyle Clifford remains in hospital

John Hunt family news: Victim’s partner pays tribute to ‘love of my life’ as Kyle Clifford remains in hospital

‘He could still be armed’: Public urged not to approach Bushey murder suspect Kyle Clifford

Hannah Hunt’s boyfriend has paid tribute to ‘the love of my life’ who was ‘taken from me too soon’ as the country reels from the triple murder in Hertfordshire.

Hannah, 28, Louise, 25, and their mother Carol, 61 – the family of BBC racing commentator John Hunt – were described as “beautiful souls” and “the most loving, gentle family” by devastated friends and neighbours after they were found with fatal wounds at their Bushey home.

After an extensive manhunt, armed police found the suspect, Kyle Clifford, in Enfield, north London, on Wednesday evening. The 26-year-old is still in hospital and is being treated for serious injuries, Hertfordshire Constabulary said.

Police investigating the murders said on Thursday that they had confiscated a crossbow.

Clifford’s older brother Bradley is serving a 23-year sentence for murder after running over and killing a moped rider who threw a bottle at his Ford Mustang. Police apparently seized two computer hard drives and two bags of documents during a search of a house in Enfield linked to Bradley Clifford.

Who is Kyle Clifford? The former soldier was arrested by the police

It turns out that the man arrested by police after a mother and two daughters were killed in a crossbow attack was a former soldier whose brother was serving a life sentence for murder.

Kyle Clifford, 26, served briefly in the armed forces, having been a member of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards, it is understood, before retiring in 2022. After the army, he briefly worked for a fire and security installation company, but left in July last year.

Clifford was born in Enfield in 1998 and is believed to be the third of four children. His eldest brother Bradley Clifford was sentenced to life in prison in 2018 after mowing down a moped and beating a teenager to death in a fit of rage after his “cherished” red Ford Mustang was damaged.

Jockeys wear black armbands as a tribute to John Hunt’s family

Jockeys at Newmarket Racecourse wore black armbands on Thursday as a tribute to the family of BBC racing commentator John Hunt.

Additionally, a minute’s silence was held on Ladies’ Day to show the crowd their respect, while fellow commentator Richard Hoiles expressed his appreciation at the start of his coverage.

“It is impossible to justify such a heinous, senseless and horrific act in today’s society,” he is reported to have said. “I have known John for 30 years. If you spend even a few moments with him, there is a good chance that the conversation will turn to family.”

“It is a myth that after our annual Christmas party some 20 years ago we all retired to the local pub and pulled out John’s wallet full of pictures of the girls at primary school.

“Words just seem hollow and inadequate in situations like this and all we can try to do is offer some comfort by trying to show the warmth and respect that is being shown to John and his family.”

Carol Hunt was the nicest person you could meet, says a friend

A childhood friend of Carol Hunt, one of three women killed in a crossbow attack in Bushey on Wednesday, has described her as a “beautiful person”.

Lea Holloway, 60, said she had known Ms Hunt since she was 16.

On Thursday, after a vigil for Ms Hunt and her daughters outside St James’ Church, she said: “We grew up together and were pregnant at the same time. This is the stuff nightmares are made of.”

“I was there the night she met John. It was in a nightclub in Hemel Hempstead. We went out together, went to birthdays and events.”

“It’s very difficult. She was the kindest, kindest, sweetest person you could ever meet. A wonderful human being.”
