World Series in Branson, Missouri.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Southern Missouri Revelers baseball team is preparing to compete in the Branson World Series tournament in two short weeks. Their 18-year-old team will look to pull off an upset and win the series.

Revelers owner and head coach Wade Amelung told Fox23 that the opportunity to play on a stage like this is a “once in a lifetime opportunity.” “Any opportunity you can take to get to the World Series and bring a group of young men of our caliber on the team is special.”

In addition to Amelung, the players of the U18 team are also looking forward to the chance to play in Branson. Mo Dierks Simmons says: “This means a lot to me. It’s probably one of the biggest games I’ve ever played in, in one of the biggest tournaments. So it’s the chance of a lifetime.”

Preparations for this tournament go beyond just practice, as Amelung and his team are raising funds for the tournament as they pay for the costs out of their own pockets. Coach Amelung says he is “looking forward to the World Series, but the hardest part is gathering the fun.” Amelung continued, “The players have been working hard over the last month. We are doing car washes, a couple of them are not this Saturday but next week in Sikeston and Jackson.” Aside from the car washes, Amelung says, “we are doing a raffle right now. The guys are not just asking for donations and/or sponsors, but they are actually physically out on the field, knocking on doors, at businesses, washing cars to raise money that we spend directly out of our own pockets for the regionals and also the World Series.”

James Cox is a father of Bryce Cox, who is on the team, and he tells Fox23 that the players wouldn’t be where they are today if they didn’t have financial help along the way. Cox says, “It’s like Wade said earlier, most of these kids wouldn’t have gotten that chance at the regionals or the World Series if they didn’t have help. Financial help costs a lot of money, and instead of kids sitting at home on their phones, I’d rather see him doing that than planning on his phone.”

Amelung says “every dollar counts.” If you would like to help the Revelers get to the World Series, here is a link with information on donations and more.
