Russian propagandists claim the strike at Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital was a false flag from the West

Russian news portal Izvestia reports that former Verkhovna Rada deputy Spiridon Kilinkarov expressed an outrageous opinion about what he believes to be the true events surrounding the July 8 rocket attack on the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv during the propaganda program “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” on Rossiya 1 TV channel on Wednesday, July 10.

Kilinkarov not only said that the accusation that Russia attacked the hospital was false, but also suggested that it was a provocation staged by Ukraine, Britain or one of their other allies.

He said: “I’ll be honest – I expected something like this. But I didn’t think it would be a children’s hospital.”

He continued: “Let’s assume that all the missiles that flew towards Kyiv (on Monday) were shot down by the Ukrainian air defenses. Tell me, what will (President Volodymyr) Zelenskyy bring to the NATO summit?” He said that Ukraine’s demands for more air defense would be rejected.

He then asked if the attack on the hospital was not carried out by Russia, then who was? He rejected the idea that “a Ukrainian sits at a system and presses a button that triggers a missile, say, to Ohmatdyt.”

However, he believed the attack was carried out by a number of “geopolitical actors playing their own games” rather than something the UK would do.

Hungary’s Orban meets Trump after NATO summit

Orban is a vocal supporter of Trump and last met the 2024 Republican presidential candidate in March.

Kilinkarov subsequently suggested that blaming Russia for the attack would provide Ukraine and other countries with the necessary pretext to bring the matter before the UN Security Council and the NATO summit and to increase support for Kyiv from NATO and its allies.

He rejected the photographic evidence of the fragments found in the hospital presented by the Ukrainian secret service (SBU), as well as the analysis of the video footage of the attack by the investigative website Bellingcat, which clearly confirmed that the hospital had been hit by a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile. He said anyone could make the tail or parts of a missile.

Kilinkarov was a pro-Russian deputy of the Verkhovna Rada and a member of the Communist Party of Ukraine from 2006 to 2014. After the Revolution of Dignity forced the former pro-Russian Ukrainian Viktor Yanukovych to flee into Russian exile in 2014, Kilinkarov followed him there. Since then, he has lived in Russia and works as an analyst for the Kremlin’s state media.
