Sabrina Carpenter talks about her hit “Nonsense”

Sabrina Carpenter is the newest guest star in First We Feast’s Hot Ones series.

In the Thursday, July 11 episode, the 25-year-old pop star talked about her 2022 song “Nonsense,” which almost didn’t make it onto her album “Emails I Can’t Send.”

At the beginning of the show, in which celebrities are interviewed while eating increasingly spicier chicken wings, Carpenter was asked by host Sean Evans about the tune.

When Evans asked the singer-songwriter – who is dating actor Barry Keoghan – if she had learned a lesson from the near-scrapped hit single, she replied: “It’s made me want to trust my personal favourites a bit more.”

The petite blonde added: “I think when you make a record, over time you want to play it to your best friends, you want to play it to your family, and then you start to focus a little bit on everyone’s favorite songs.”

In the Thursday, July 11 episode, the 25-year-old pop singer talked about her 2022 song “Nonsense,” which almost didn’t make it onto her album “Emails I Can’t Send.”

Carpenter explained, “I think the lesson I learned with ‘Nonsense’ was that that song was so related to my personality, and I started thinking about what fits on a record as opposed to what fits Sabrina or me as an artist.”

“It taught me so much that keeps me going and working on the next record,” she reiterated. “I think now that what feels most honest and touches me the most is what resonates with other people.”

When she performed “Nonsense” at the Governors Ball in June, she changed the lyrics of the outro to send a message of support to the LGBTQ+ community.

“Should I text him back? This is such a hard decision. / This doesn’t fit in me, brother. I’m so dumb and small. / People who hate Pride can suck my dick,” she sang, sparking an outcry from the audience.

“Happy Pride New York!” the entertainer, known for his reworking of the nonsense outro, later shouted.

And last year she released a holiday remix called “A Nonsense Christmas.”

Earlier this week, voice actress Nancy Cartwright – who has voiced The Simpsons character Bart for over three decades – confirmed that she is Sabrina’s aunt.

“Yes, definitely!” the 66-year-old Emmy winner replied to a fan on TikTok who asked if she and the singer were related.

At the beginning of the show, in which celebrities are interviewed while eating increasingly spicier chicken wings, Carpenter was asked by host Sean Evans about the tune.
When Evans asked the singer-songwriter, who is dating actor Barry Keoghan, if she had learned a lesson from the nearly discarded hit single, she replied: “I want to trust my personal favorites a bit more now.”

“Isn’t that incredible? To find out that someone – who may have known me for a while, who has known this little 10-year-old boy for 35 years, and some of you for much less – finds out that I’m related to this superstar.”

“She is truly amazing,” the proud aunt raved about her niece.

In 2021, Sabrina told Wired that the “talented” Scientologist is the sister of her father, David Carpenter.

At the time, she also noted that she had learned “so much” from watching the “legend,” who earns $300,000 per episode of the long-running cartoon.
