“I made a mistake by not coming clean initially, but I played the game right.” HBO has released the trailer for a documentary series called Charlie Hustle and the thing with Pete Rosea 4-part event about baseball player Pete Rose. It tells the story of the baseball legend Pete Rose Career, rise to fame, scandals and reinstatement, with archival footage and interviews exploring his contradictory personality as a hard-nosed crook and fallen icon tainted by gambling. Extensive archival footage + interviews from teammates, family, friends and journalists detail Rose’s heroic rise and subsequent banishment from the game. Brash and cocky, Rose earned the nickname “Charlie Hustle” for his all-important tenacity that won him three World Series titles and broke Ty Cobb’s record for most hits in a career. His off-field problems, however, eventually landed him in prison for tax evasion and led to his banishment from baseball for gambling, putting a permanent stain on the game. Aided by Rose’s always colorful insights, Charlie Hustle and the thing with Pete Rose is a fascinating portrait of a complex character full of contradictions – a person seeking redemption but not quite ready for full repentance. It really looks like it should be entertaining and fascinating to watch.
