Oura has released a statement on the recently announced Galaxy Ring, saying that the company is encouraged by the growing market awareness but has no plans to slow down.
At the recent Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung unveiled its new wearable Galaxy Ring. It was the company’s first foray into the smart ring market. While this may be a first for Samsung, the company has to compete with Oura, one of the titans in the smart ring market. Oura recently spoke to Android Authority about Samsung’s latest release and what it means for the company.
In the statement, Oura said: “We are encouraged by the growing awareness of smart rings as more people recognize the unique benefits of their form factor.” The company continued: “We have been in the business for over a decade, serving both Android and iOS users, and have expanded our foundations in sleep and recovery tracking to expanded categories such as women’s health, heart health, and stress and resilience.”
Oura concluded by listing some of the company’s recent achievements: “Oura Ring offers over 50 health and wellness metrics and insights, and in 2024 alone we delivered 14 new features. We’re not slowing down; we remain focused on creating value for our members and providing the best personal health companion.”
Despite its successes, there is one area where Oura will have some difficulty competing. Samsung has made it clear that the Galaxy Ring does not require a subscription to its services. Oura locks certain features of the Oura Ring Gen 3 behind a paywall, so users only have access to battery life, app settings, and three daily Oura scores unless they pay.
Aside from the price, the Galaxy Ring offers several features that set it apart from the competition. For example, the Galaxy Ring has an AI-powered energy score, which we’ve seen on the Galaxy Watch. It assesses the overall health of your body based on several factors. The ring can then use another AI-powered feature, Well Tips, to analyze your energy score and other health indicators and give you personalized advice on everything from activity to nutrition.
Competition is one of the key ingredients for innovation and the release of the Galaxy Ring could help propel Oura to even greater heights. It will be interesting to watch the competition between these two companies and it will only get better if the Apple Ring ever sees the light of day.
