NBA 2K25 trailer “What If” uses famous quote from Kanye West

NBA 2K25 trailer “What If” uses famous quote from Kanye West

A new trailer for NBA 2K25 was released today, and like cover athlete Jayson Tatum, it was inspired by Kanye West’s famous 2005 Grammy speech. While the trailer itself doesn’t show any gameplay, it does feature the game’s three cover athletes. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the new trailer.

NBA 2K25 trailer “What If” uses Kanye West’s Grammy line

In the latest “What If” trailer for NBA 2K25, it was obvious that they were referencing Kanye West’s speech at the 47th Grammy Awards.. The trailer starts with a clip of Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum doing a dunk before the narrator asks, “What if he had listened to the doubters?” I’m not really sure who the doubters are here, considering Tatum is considered one of the best players in the league.

All kidding aside, a clip of Las Vegas Aces player A’ja Wilson is then shown. The narrator then asks, “What if she wasn’t obsessed with winning?” Wilson graces the cover of both the WNBA issue and the All-Star issue with Tatum.

Lastly, the trailer shows a clip of the Hall of Fame Edition’s cover athlete, Vince Carter, before the narrator asks another question. “What if they never made it to the cover of 2K?” before ending with “I guess we’ll never know.” Well, I guess they would have been fine with that, as long as they made smart financial decisions.

But all joking aside, it’s obvious that the inspiration for this NBA 2K25 trailer comes from Kanye West’s speech during the 47th Grammy Awards in 2005. He had just won the award for Best Rap Album for his “College Dropout”. During his famous speech, he said the following:

“Everyone wanted to know what I would do if I didn’t win. I guess we’ll never know.”

That evening he won a total of three Grammys.

Tatum recently used this line shortly after winning his first NBA championship, and now we’re seeing the developers do the same, as they used it for the very first trailer of NBA 2K25.

It’s cool to see a new trailer and get fans excited for the next NBA 2K game. Although this trailer doesn’t show any gameplay, the YouTube comment section will surely keep you entertained. Many fans are having fun with the name of the trailer and poking fun at the game and the series in general.

That wraps up everything from the new NBA 2K25 “What If” trailer. For those still playing NBA 2K24, feel free to check out the new NBA 2K25-themed Locker Code. Additionally, Season 8 is still running for those looking to earn rewards in MyCAREER or MyTEAM.
