We all know that Blake Lively and Taylor Swift are best friendsand in the run-up to the release of Deadpool and Wolverinethere were a lot of rumors that the pop star would possibly appear alongside Ryan Reynolds. Well, while the leading man isn’t denying those rumors, he was asked about his relationship with Taylor Swift and her favorite song. And while his answer was obvious, it was also super sweet because of the sweet story behind it.
Ryan Reynolds revealed his favorite Taylor Swift song
While they upcoming Marvel movie with diversityHugh Jackman and Shawn Levy tried to guess Ryan Reynolds’ favorite Taylor Swift song. The Wolverine actor said with confidence that he knew the answer because his co-star sang the song to him on the last day of filming. Deadpool and WolverineHis guess was “We will never get back together.” In the meantime, director Levy made a bold guess with the Call Deep Cut “Gorgeous”. They were both wrong, the answer is obviously “Betty”, which Reynolds revealed by writing down the song title and saying:
Come on man, I’m in my Folklore and Evermore era.
While I appreciate the witty responses from Reynolds’ co-workers, it’s so sweet that the actor chose this song. And that’s because the track (and the main character in it) named after his and Blake Lively’s daughter Betty.
The story and meaning behind Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s connection to “Betty”
On Taylor Swift’s album folklorethere’s a trio of tracks about a love triangle, and the characters involved are named Betty, James, and Augustine (or “August”). Between the tracks “Cardigan,” “August,” and “Betty,” a teen love story is told, and Swifties absolutely love them. Aside from this simply being a beautiful trio of songs, the characters’ names are also a tribute to the singer’s friends, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, as two of her daughters are named Betty and James.
She also mentioned the names of Betty, James and Inez, which means she mentioned all the names of the couple’s three children (their fourth was not yet born at the time). It is a very nice nod to her friends, and when she asked about his Family folklore Connection, Ryan Reynolds told SiriusXM back in 2021:
The names are our children’s names. But we trust her blindly. She’s very sensitive to these things. And of course the song has nothing to do with our children, except their names. But I mean, what an honor, I don’t know, I just thought it was incredible. We still do.
This is not only a nice reference to her friendship with Lively and Reynolds, as Swift accepted her Grammy for folklore She mentioned the important role these two play in her life. While thanking her collaborators and producers, she also said:
I would like to thank James, Inez and Betty and their parents who are the second and third people I play every new song I write to.
Not only does she show them her music, they’ve also collaborated with her. Lively directed the music video for “I Bet You Think About Me” and Reynolds had a cameo in the “You Need To Calm Down” video. So overall, these two are very closely connected to Swift and her career.
The singer is known for throwing around names and allusions to people from her life – most recently Department for Tortured Poets The songs “So High School” and “The Alchemy” contain many lyrics that reference her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his career as a football player, so it’s always amazing to hear her muses’ reactions to the songs.
Although “Betty” (and the other two songs in this trilogy) have nothing to do with Reynolds and Lively’s children, the fact that Swift honored them by naming her characters after them is very meaningful. Plus, the couple is known for keeping their personal lives very private, especially when it comes to their children, so just a simple mention of their names and no further details probably meant everything to them.
Overall, the touching story behind “Betty” perfectly explains why it’s Ryan Reynolds’ favorite Taylor Swift song, and I love that he recently admitted that so openly.
Hopefully we will get more adorable insights into this power couple’s friendship with Swift. And who knows, considering that the Deadpool actor gives fans hope for a cameo appearance from Swift In Deadpool and Wolverine, maybe when it premieres on the Cinema program 2024she will appear in it.
However, while we dream of this possibly happening, let’s just soak up this precious story surrounding Ryan Reynolds’ favorite Taylor Swift song, because it’s “Sweeter Than Fiction.”
