She has the royal style in her luggage.
Queen Camilla has carried many chic handbags over the years, but this week she shocked her royal fans by appearing for the first time with an iconic handbag named after King Charles’ late ex-wife, Princess Diana.
The 76-year-old royal debuted her taupe Lady Dior bag ($6,000) at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in London on Wednesday and even wore it again the next day during a visit to Wales on Thursday.
Queen Camilla wore her quilted bag with a light brown giraffe-print dress by Anna Valentine for the tennis match, but for her visit to the Welsh Parliament on Thursday she wore a pink coat dress and an oversized straw hat.
According to Dior, Princess Diana developed a fondness for the design of the models when Madame Bernadette Chirac, then First Lady of France, presented her with the fashion house’s never-before-released “Chouchou” bag in 1995.
After Diana was seen carrying the bag several times, Dior decided to rename it “Lady Dior” in honor of the queen, who was nicknamed Lady Di.
The style has become synonymous with the late Princess of Wales over the years, making the bag a surprising choice for the new wife of King Charles III.
However, it is not the first time that she has worn a piece of Dior jewelry.
Queen Camilla wore an elegant navy cape dress by the French fashion house at a royal banquet in Versailles in September 2023, and she also wore Dior designs at Royal Ascot in 2023 and 2024.
Meghan Markle is also joining in with Lady Dior, wearing the designer’s updated D-Lite version in a discontinued black finish in 2021. And in 2022, the French fashion house even reissued a limited edition blue satin mini version of the bag that Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother famously carried at the 1996 Met Gala.
The Queen’s decision to carry a bag literally named after Princess Diana has angered some royal fans.
“Camilla with a LADY Dior bag is a big no-go for me! Princess Diana is the one who made the bag an icon,” one fan commented on the Royal Fashion Police’s Instagram post about her Wimbledon outfit.
“I thought so too. No way! Diana forever 🥰,” agreed another, while a third fan added: “Lady Dior!!! Really? First name when using Diana ❤️.”
On X (formerly Twitter), another Diana fan put it more clearly, writing: “No, Camila Parker Bowls or whatever that witch name is, uses Lady Dior.”
No matter what royal watchers think, we can all agree that this stylish bag has stood the test of time.
