Vietnamese singer causes outrage by posing on an old house in Hoi An

Photos of 44-year-old singer Duc Tuan’s striking poses on the roof of an old house in the old town of Hoi An have sparked a wave of criticism on Vietnamese social media.

Nguyen Van Son, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoi An City, where the ancient city is located, said Your Tre (Youth) newspaper on Thursday morning that the administration had been informed of a private citizen who had used the roof of an old house in the city as a backdrop for his photo shoot.

The Hoi An city government has asked the relevant authorities to investigate the case.

Singer Duc Tuan’s verified Facebook account, “Duc Tuan – the Divo,” uploaded a series of photos of the singer on Wednesday taken in the ancient town of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam.

According to the information in his Facebook post, these photos were taken not long ago.

Some photos show him walking and sitting on the tiled roof of an old house.

Climbing the roofs of old houses in the city violates the laws on monument protection.

This behavior could damage the condition of the old houses.

In response to a question about the photo album on Facebook, the account administrator replied that the photos were taken in Hoi An Ancient Town, but the house that the singer and his crew chose as the backdrop for the photoshoot had previously been rebuilt and used for the photoshoot.

Hoi An was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

Singer Duc Tuan is known for some songs like “Nua hon thuong dau” and “Tinh ca pho”.

Several people, including some influencers, had previously climbed onto the roofs of old houses in the city for photo shoots.

They had to remove these photos from their social media accounts and apologize due to public outrage and coercive measures by local authorities.
