An incredible comeback with a double-header against Livingston in Longview on July 6 has earned the Shelby County 6U All-Star team the privilege of representing Texas at the Diamond Youth Softball World Series in Fairview, Tennessee – a historic first for a Shelby County 6U team.

“The triumph filled the entire Shelby County community with overwhelming pride,” said mother Erica Tomcavege.

Coach Adam Hubble added, “These girls have worked hard since day one of the league. There are girls who couldn’t even hit a pitching ball from the start of the league season and now they’re throwing bombs into the outfield at only 5, 6 and 7 years old.”

The young athletes, who had previously claimed the title of Southern Regional Champions, faced a daunting challenge during the two-day tournament in Longview. Although they suffered a setback in their second game against Livingston, the Shelby County team showed remarkable resilience and sheer determination to defy the odds.

Coach Kayla Cowdin said, “I have to say I have never seen so much dedication and commitment from kids their age. They showed up, played hard and discovered a love for a game that some never get to play.” Coach Cowdin continued, “I’m proud of them, that’s a huge understatement. The time I spent with them this summer was a true joy and something I will always remember.”

“These girls have worked hard to get where they are. Now it’s time to go to Tennessee and show them what some 6U girls from Texas can do,” said coach Adam Hubble.

The upcoming series begins on Thursday, July 18th and promises to be an exciting showdown as the girls prepare to take on Louisiana in a highly anticipated East Texas vs. Cajun matchup, with the final match taking place on Sunday, July 21st.
