Chris Paul reveals which Spurs legend texted him after he signed

Chris Paul has already won the hearts of some Spurs legends, he revealed at his introductory press conference in San Antonio.

The 12-time All-Star said he received text messages from Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili when the transfer became public, and it made him even more excited to be part of the team.

CP3 could have played closer to home in the LA area, where his family lives, and pursued a championship, but he was willing to sacrifice those things for playing minutes.

“My family is everything. My wife is here, my kids are in LA and that’s where they’ll be spending the season,” Paul said. “And I love basketball so much that I could be close to home, but if I’m not playing, I’m not happy.”

“And I love my family more than anything. When we saw this opportunity, even though it means I’m away from my family, my family knows me better than anyone and they know that I just want to play. I want to play more than anything. And that’s why I’m grateful to them and even more grateful to be here.”

Paul is known for improving the winning percentage of every team he has ever played for, and with San Antonio finishing the 2023-24 season with the second-worst record in the league, his help will no doubt be welcome.

“I always say I hate losing more than winning,” he said.

The 34-year-old has also coached a number of young NBA stars throughout his life and will now work with the talent of a whole generation, Victor Wembanyama.

But in all modesty, Paul is excited to see what he can learn from young players.

“That’s probably the coolest thing about my career: Yes, I went to some teams that were younger or something, but I’m constantly learning from those guys,” Paul said.

“I had a chance to play with (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) in his second year in the league, and I had a chance to learn from him. I had a chance to learn from (Devin Booker), Mikal Bridges and all those guys. So I’m excited to share with those guys what I know and whatever they want to know, but I’m also excited to see what I can learn from them.”
