Bryce Miller threw six scoreless innings on Wednesday and the Seattle Mariners picked up their first series win in nearly a month, defeating the San Diego Padres 2-0 to complete their two-game sweep.

Miller (7-7) allowed five hits, no walks and one strikeout in an 80-pitch game. Three relievers got the final nine outs, with closer Andres Munoz pitching 1 1/3 innings for his 15th save in 17 chances.

Michael King (7-6) was unlucky, allowing just three hits and two runs, including one earned, in six innings. He allowed one walk and struck out nine, but that wasn’t enough to save San Diego from its fourth straight loss.

Seattle scored its first run in the second inning without getting a hit. Cal Raleigh got a one-out walk and grabbed second base while Ty France saw a third strike. Jorge Polanco then hit a grounder to first base that went between Luis Arraez’s legs, which was an error that gave Raleigh a run.

The Mariners scored their other run in the fourth inning in a more conventional manner. Luke Raley and France hit singles before Polanco easily scored with an RBI single to right-center with two outs off Raley from second base.

The Padres had three real scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on any of them. In the second inning, they got consecutive singles from Donovan Solano, Jackson Merrill and David Peralta and were able to load the bases with one out. However, Ha-Seong Kim hit a flyout to center fielder Julio Rodriguez and Solano was caught on a close play at the plate, resulting in a double play that ended the inning.

In the eighth inning, Brett Sullivan drew a two-out walk from Ryne Stanek and reached second base on Arraez’s single. Then Munoz came in and hit a 2-2 slider into the dirt with Jurickson Profar to end the threat.

San Diego tied the game early in the ninth inning when Munoz walked Jake Cronenworth and Manny Machado. Solano’s bouncer to shortstop advanced the runners 90 feet, but Merrill beat a strikeout and Peralta hit a soft line drive to shortstop JP Crawford.
